Day two/Activity 3: Miracle on the Hudson

For this activity, we would like to hear about a time when you, or someone you know, was brave like Sully.Mr Chesley Sullenberger, or “Sully” as he was known, was an airline captain. He was forced to land his plane.Amazingly, all 155 people on board the A320 plane survived the landing. On our blog, we need to recount a time when we had someone do something really brave.

Recount - When I was 10 years old we were visited by a man from the New zealand army after knowing about him I went to my dad in order to further extend my knowledge on people who go to war. My Uncle Aisake,Afamasaga joined the U.S.A army. I think this is a brave thing to do because not all people would sacrifice there life just to save world or country. Now his uniform has been passed down to my uncle and now to my dad and next will be passed down to my brother.

  1. Hi Angela, this is Mrs Collins from Manaiakalani and I'll be commenting on blogs over term break. Well done on posting and participating in the SLJ this year. Have you seen the film about the 'Miracle on the Hudson", or perhaps read the book; I think you can get it from the library, it really is a good read. I really like information you shared about your Uncles army uniform...do you want to be in the armed forces when you leave school? Keep blogging, and commenting on others, to increase your chance of winning one of the awesome prizes and to keep up your learning over the school break!

  4. Hello Angela! Your recount is very inspiring, and we can really appreciate you sharing this. I've definitely learnt a thing or two from this blog post. It's great that you looked into Sully and what he did for this activity as well. I agree, it's pretty brave of someone to risk their live to save another, especially being a whole country or even the world in this case. Do you think this would be something you would do? Great job Angela!

  5. Hi Angela!,
Wow! Great work on participating in the Summer Learning Journey program, this year. What a great recount you have shared, about something your uncle has done that was very brave. Your uncle is an amazing person. It is definitely brave for someone to sacrifice themselves for their country. What was something that you have done which was brave?

    Nice Work!

  6. Kia ora Angela,

It is lovely meeting you! I am so excited that you are joining us for the Summer Learning Journey 2019-2020. Have you done this programme before?

This is my first year joining the Summer Learning Journey, and I am so excited that I get to read over the Manaiakalani blogs.

I’m really looking forward to summer, aren't you? In my spare time I like spending time at the beach and hanging out with my friends. I also enjoy going for walks and I absolutely love cooking and baking. What are you looking forward to doing this summer?

That is an incredibly brave thing to do, I can't even imagine how scary that decision would have been! Sacrificing yourself for the greater good takes a lot of courage. Does this situation inspire you to be brave? When is a time you have been brave? :)

    Nga mihi
