Day two/Activity 3: Miracle on the Hudson

For this activity, we would like to hear about a time when you, or someone you know, was brave like Sully.Mr Chesley Sullenberger, or “Sully” as he was known, was an airline captain. He was forced to land his plane.Amazingly, all 155 people on board the A320 plane survived the landing. On our blog, we need to recount a time when we had someone do something really brave.

Recount - When I was 10 years old we were visited by a man from the New zealand army after knowing about him I went to my dad in order to further extend my knowledge on people who go to war. My Uncle Aisake,Afamasaga joined the U.S.A army. I think this is a brave thing to do because not all people would sacrifice there life just to save world or country. Now his uniform has been passed down to my uncle and now to my dad and next will be passed down to my brother.

Day two/Activity 2: One Small Step for Man

For this activity, we needed to  imagine that we were Neil Armstrong. We needed to write a short poem describing how we felt when we first set foot on the moon. Neil Alden Armstrong as an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the Moon.He was also a naval aviator, test pilot, and university professor. I really thought about rhyme it and also making my words detailed.

Poem - I step on the moon and dust came up
Not a single sound not a single mouse
Each step left a footstep and eyer step
Left a remarkable mark. I'm shocked
I'm scared what planet did I land on
I can't take another step someone take
Me down I can feel like I'm drifting away
And away take me back far away.

Day 2/Activity 1: Flying Solo

For this activity we need to compare and contrast two aviators which was Jean batten and Amelia earhart.Jean Batten was a famous aviator (pilot) who was born in Rotorua, New Zealand in 1909.Amelia Earhart was an American aviator who lived at about the same time as Jean Batten. Here I needed to use the venn diagram provided to compare each aviators.  Did you know that Amelia earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and that.Jean batten was the First person to fly solo from England to New Zealand

Comments

In order to get more points for the summer learning journey I have commented on 5 blogs today. For today I have commented on Avalons,Joel,Victoria,Taheesha and also Sakains blog. I have made sure I have left positive feedback and have left my comment in a respectful way.I have added a greeting to greet them and also a question to make them think.

Day One/Activity 3: Scaling New Heights

We then needed to select a charity that we were  interested in. Then we need to  read all about the charity..The SPCA is a company that helps recuses animals in need. The SPCA is dedicated to preventing cruelty towards animals.SPCA goal is to protect over 40,000 animals in New Zealand every year. Animals who are sick, injured, abused or simply abandoned. People often volunteer to help these poor animals. Did you know over 40k have been rescued.

Day One /Activity 1: Setting Sail

For this activity, we need to make a list of ten food items that we  could take with us. We needed to think careful as we wouldn't have access to a refrigerator or freezer while at sea. Then we need to explain the list of 10 food items we have selected to take on an ocean voyage and the reasons why we chose these items. This was a really hard and interesting DLO because we had to try and think of foods that can't be inside of a fridge, that can be made easily and are also nice and yum.

Day One/Activity 2: Discovering Aotearoa

For this activity we need to think about our own experiences and our own cultural background. I have created a DLO to share about my culture. The stars on the Samoan flag represent the Southern Stars that were followed by the ancestors of the Pacific people to the island of Samoa. February 24, 1949 was the date the Samoan flag became official. For the dancese men and boys are topless and have a lavalava with a stringy strap around their legs. For the Girls if they are doing a siva nafi they wear a fala and they have a crown which has mirrors on which is shaped like circle. They girls are also covered in oil to make them look shiny and to stick money on when people give money the also have a necklace and have C shapes on their face. For the girls doing a normal dance they were a Lavalava a matching top and also have the c shape on their Face.Samoa is a group of nine islands in the South Pacific Ocean. Samoa is known for its beautiful scenery. There are many native Samoans whose ancestors arrived in Samoa by boat. I come from the beautiful island of Apia.

Garry Kasparov

This week for the Summer Learning Journey it is the teaser week. We have decided to do the teaser week for practise for the real activity's.He has been the top-ranked chess player for 15 years straight ( 1985 - 2000 ). He is also known as G.O.A.T which means greatest of all time. He had started playing chess when he was 17 years. He practised every single day and hour. Here is mys story:

Pay Gap

The Black Ferns have been a very successful team, winning the Women’s Rugby World Cup a record five times.Although they are paid, the Black Ferns make less money than members of the men’s professional rugby team - the All Blacks. I think that The women should get the same amount of pay as the the all blacks men. I think that this is unfair as both teams are playing the same rugby therefore they should be paying both teams with the same amount of pay. I don’t think that giving the women team members and lower amount of pay is fair because it means that the women's team is not important or useful.

Faster than a speeding bullet

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce,  is a Jamaican track and field sprinter. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica.Shelly, who trained for the Olympics with teammate Asafa Powell, became the first Jamaican woman in history to win an Olympic gold medal in the 100 m sprint. For this activity. For this activity, we need to  create four new similes on shelly ann fraser pryce

BFG

BFG is a Big Friendly Giant. He’s a giant yes a giant and he lives with 5 ugly, mean and dumb giants. All of these giant's hate humans but BFG does not he actually sees humans all the time at night as he is the keeper or the person who stores your dreams. BFG is really big and looks old. I imagined he smells like snozzcumbers and frobscottle as he always eat that. BFG is a brave person in one part of the movie he meets the queen. It hard to see someone special when you are different. I would use Big,Friendly,Giant,Funny,Crazy,Brave,Weird,Old,Helpful and kind hearted to describe BFG.

My Pepeha

Gifting Rainbow Crayons

To pay it forward LS2 has donated some crayons to somerville. This is a photo showing the crayons we have created. We thought that we could gift some of our crayons to somerville kids because we thought that this would make people feel happy. We packaged these up and sent them to somerville. We thought that the somerville student would love the crayons because of the bright colours and all the gillter. We would like to thank Mrs linda for her help and also like to thank the girls who helped as well as Mrs Anderson.

Tesselation

This week for math we were looking at Tessellation.  Tessellation is an arrangement of shapes closely fitted together, especially of polygons in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping. This is my Tessellation. I have thought about my colours to show my pattern in a certain way. I have picked the Crossed liked shape in order to make my pattern. The aim was to cover as much of the white squares as possible. Doing this I noticed that I picked a small shape which was harder because the smaller my shape was the more I need to think about where I could place it. But if I picked a Wider shape if would pretty much cover most of the white squares. The colours I used was dark magenta 1,2 and 3. Next time I think I would use more brighter colours and a wider shape.
