Maori Enterprise

Before

Enterprise and Economics was first introduced, by our Maori ancestors, before the Europeans settled in New Zealand. Coastal Maori sold Seafood (Kaimoana), while the Inlands preserved birds and berries. The Maori's would often trade valuable items, not knowing it's true value. Maori had grew a number of plants that had been bought by the first arrivals. By the 19th century Maori's ownership passed out

After

Enterprise was introduced, by Maori's.
Coastal Maori and Inlands preserved food.
Good items were sold with cheaper bargains.
Maori plants were brought from the first settlers
19th century they gave ownership.

Today we have created a 5 sentence summary on the Early Maori Enterprise story that we read. The before shows what we wrote about the book in 5 sentences. Then we need to change something. We need to have only 10 syllables in each sentences. We used our body to help us count each syllables in each sentences this was pretty hard but I manage to finish. I was working collaboratively with Mele and Marieta.

Water Filting

Why did we create water filters? Did you know that 2.4 billion people don’t have access to clean water. We had the idea of creating a water filter in groups, so we can see if we can filter the dirty water that we collected to represent the water that those people have access to. We then filled our bottles with our materials in order and tied it off with our cloth and coffee filters. The final part was to test it and our groups water filter did the best.

We were to complete each slide as quickly as we can because each slide had a time limt of 2 minutes. For the first minuet we were not allowed to talk but we were to add our facts on what we knew about space. We then got to watch a video to help us bring more knowledge on space. This was all to build on our knowledge.

Bridge Design Evaluation

This week for Inquiry we are building bridges out of tooth picks. Fist we needed to get into groups then we needed to plan out who is en-charge of what, plan a design and the measurement. Avalon,Chavda and Joel were in my group. Avalon was the boss I was the Accountant Chavda was the secretary and Joel was the architect. The bridge that we were building was a truss bridge. Next we got a board and started to make the sides. We made two then we made the deck. We needed to keep count of the toothpicks because we needed to pay 72c for each sticks. I would like to give a huge thank you to Mr Anderson for Providing the Glue and toothpicks. We have designed a truss bridge that has been reinforced. We have used triangles on our bridge. The bridge deck spans 29 cm in length and is 6 cm wide. We choose a truss bridge because the triangles would make the bridge stronger. We have used 185 toothpicks. We also used extra toothpicks, to make our bridge stronger. We used PVA glue and a glue gun. It cost 5$ to use the glue gun. Altogether the cost was $138.80c.The deck worked really well but the the sides were bending. The bridge hold up to 1200g. We got 8/10 for the way our bridge looked. The tuck also fitted through the bridge. What we could work on Next time. Next time l think we could work on adding more triangles and more toothpicks under our bridge to make it more stronger. We could have double layered all of our toothpicks. We used rice to see if our bridge will hold or break. Our group placed 3rd overall. We think that we did great overall with our bridge.

Auckland Harbour Bridge

This week fro Inquiry we were making a presentaion about the Auckland Harbour Bridge. I learnt that General Lord Cobham came to perform the ceremony. The Navy was sent to the harbour bridge to provide the guard of honour. The prime minister had given a well paid tribute to the men that had built this. General Lord Cobham pulled the tozel and the harbour bridge was open. Did you know that they wanted a bridge so they asked government if they could build a bridge from Auckland city two the North sore. The government said no because it would take to long and would b e to much money. So they asked one more time and the government said you can make a bridge put you have to pay for all the material so they made a plan and gave it to the government and he said put you still have to pay for all the things and material. It costed 6 million to pay for all the materials like steel and more. The bridge is made out of truss which are triangles and lattice girders these are long tunnels connected together by triangles. They had to pay a toll which was 20c each time you went by.

In between the year, 1864 and 1865 Panmure Bridge was made. This was made out of Wood from a tree and is the earliest surviving swing span bridge in New Zealand. The picture was taken on the Tamaki side. This was a beam bridge. In 1915 people went and reconstructed Panmure Bridge. The Bridge was made out of Wood and string. The picture is taken from the Tamaki side. This was a beam bridge. In 1916 they had the official opening for Panmure Bridge. The bridge went from Panmure and Pakuranga. The opening was on the 14 August 1916. At the time Prime Minister William Massey led the way with a traction engine.

Sky Tower Trip

This week for our Inquiry topic we were lucky enough to go on a free trip to New Zealand's Famous Structure the Sky Tower. Waba was our host who guided us around the sky tower. The first thing that happens was we split into our kiwi can groups then we went inside next we took a photo where there were a big phone and lights. Secondly, we went up an elevator to the observation deck. Waba then gave us a sheet of paper where we needed to find what location it is and also gave  us a sky city pencil. We needed to work with partners to do this activity next we went to the deck to see where people would go if there was an emergency. My favorite part of the Deck was it had an orange cabin because it had color pencils, workbooks, first aid kit and lollies. Sadly the lollies were not there but Waba said it would be there as well as some water. After we went to the theater to watch videos about the sky tower to learn some facts. We even got to see a model made by a man named James. I learned that the tower was built in 1997 and took 2 years and 9 months to build. I also learned that 6,000 elephant is the weight of the sky tower Mrs. Anderson asked us this question and I answer 6,000 and Waba gave me so marbles. Then we headed up an elevator but before we did women showed a picture that was taken of us when we first came to the sky tower. Then we went to near the exit. I would like to say a thank you to Mrs. Krirpatrick, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Dobson, Mrs. Linda and Mr. Wong for coming with us and helps us on the trip. I would like to give a huge thank you to Douglas Bates for donating the money for Room 5, LS1 and LS2 to visit the sky tower everyone enjoyed the trip and learned fun things about structures.

The Respiratory System

This DLO Shows me and Viva Explaining what the Respiratory systems is. We talked on How the Respiratory System works. As the you breathe in fresh oxygen it travels through the trachea also known as the windpipe and from there the air travels to the bronchi each lung has one) then goes to the diaphragm the diaphragm then inhales and exhales your lungs to push air in and air out then the carbon dioxide get pushed. This cycle happens continuously throughout life. We also Include a way to make your own bottle Lung like how we made ours. Then We listed Facts about the Respiratory Systems as well as a summary on the parts. We used the 25 word Summary template to help us created the Summary. As you might see that me and Viva have putted on some photos of our Bottle for an exsample. For more information you can click on this site.Kidshealth - The Respiratory System

We need to have bones so you can move. When you are born you have 300 bones and then when you get older you have 206. This Activity explains what the Skeletal Systems dose to our body. The Skeletal Systems help protect you origins like lungs, stomach, liver, intestine and brain. I collaborated with Chavda, Viva, Joel and Hajera. We used a site called EzGif to create a moving photo to show the progress of the body building and falling. The fun part was seeing if it was going to stand. We used Play doh as the skin and toothpicks as the bones.

Auckland to Pyeongchang

I created this DLO that shows how far away Pyeongchang is from Auckland I now know Pyeongchang is in South Korea. South Korea is a country near China and Japan. I know that Seoul is the capital of South Korea. One fact I found interesting was that the korean flag has the yin yang sign in the middle of it. Yin yang mean dark bright.
