Day 2 - Activity 3 - Flying Fungi - Week 3

This week I needed to solve a tricky maths problem.Let’s imagine that we tested the air in your classroom and found 7 different kinds of mould. The cleaner says that it takes 5 days for each mould to be eradicated (removed). If the school had to remove each mould one at a time, how long would it take to remove all the mould from the classroom? What I did to slove this was times 7 and 5 whiched equally 35.

  2. Hello Angela,
I like how you described the question very clearly and had your answer in no time for airborne fungi. I had the same answer, 35, but we can convert that into 5 weeks. I thought that you could maybe add more detail into why you got those numbers, because some people might not be able to understand why you got 5 and 7.

What is your favourite wet time activities?

  3. Tena Koe Angela,

I like how you've written down a short introduction explaining to us what you need to do for this activity. Sometimes it could get really tricky to form a number equation from a very wordy question.

You've done a great job thinking about the different terminology (words) to come up with the equation '7 times 5'. Ka pai!

Always remember to put down units for your final answer. In other words, your answer for this question would be 35 'days'. I have a bonus question for you - if you had to answer this question using 'weeks', how many weeks would it take to remove all the mould from the classroom? Have a think!

    Looking forward to your reply,
    Susie :)

  4. Hello Angela,
Thanks for completing this task and thanks a lot for sharing your advice and the information you have done. I have enjoyed every blog post you have done. I really like how we all had different answers that answer is pretty good. I also like how you told us how you solved it. You have done a great job in the Summer Learning Journey.

Was this activity hard or easy?
