Auckland Harbour Bridge

This week fro Inquiry we were making a presentaion about the Auckland Harbour Bridge. I learnt that General Lord Cobham came to perform the ceremony. The Navy was sent to the harbour bridge to provide the guard of honour. The prime minister had given a well paid tribute to the men that had built this. General Lord Cobham pulled the tozel and the harbour bridge was open. Did you know that they wanted a bridge so they asked government if they could build a bridge from Auckland city two the North sore. The government said no because it would take to long and would b e to much money. So they asked one more time and the government said you can make a bridge put you have to pay for all the material so they made a plan and gave it to the government and he said put you still have to pay for all the things and material. It costed 6 million to pay for all the materials like steel and more. The bridge is made out of truss which are triangles and lattice girders these are long tunnels connected together by triangles. They had to pay a toll which was 20c each time you went by.

The Eye

The Eye
The eye was as green as the grass in a garden on a summer day,
but much more deadly. It was speckled with gold, like the brightest stars
shimmering in the sky at night, but much more deadly. In the sweltering depths
of the misty marsh, it lay there. Waiting. As if in a peaceful slumber, the creature
stretched itself out, scales covering its body from snout to tail. It lay there, waiting….
For it’s dinner.

The strange head created moves along the bushes
making its mystery sound. Its eye moves as fast as a cheetah. It moves
towards the old, dent and cold cottage. The sun shines on it scales. Its scales
shine’s a bright gold and green. The village is dark, old dented just like the
cottage. One person is alive in a undescover cave people say I say it more like
I can see it cave. I

It’s a girl all dirty and hungry trying to find food. I
give her food and she denies it she says that she needs to fin
d food by herself or the great Firelight were burn here.
She said she had help once and there is was the Firelight but suddenly
the creature came and saved the poor girl.

This week fro writing we did 5-7-10. what we needed to do was descired a picture and
make a story. My story is about a girl who did not get help and if she did she will died
from firelight but a creature will save her or will it. My first paragragh had some story
starters from the site I found the image

How to tell Analogue Time?

How to tell Analogue Time?

It can be difficult or simple to tell the time but however people mostly prefer their phone,
ipad, tv and watch. As people know that the time itself-go fast or slow.
Each hand has its own role to play. The shorthand is for an hour, the long hand is for
the minutes and the thin hand is for the seconds. Today I will be telling you how to tell the time.
This explanation will tell you the about the hands, numerals and how to tell analogue time.

The hands on the clock is the the second most important thing on the clock to be able to
tell the time. Each hand has its own role to play. The shorthand is for an hour, the long hand
is for the minutes and the thin hand is for the seconds. If the shorthand is pointing to any number and
the long hand is pointing to the number 6 the timer would be a number and 30.

The numerals mean the numbers. The small lines are numbers and they represent
the minutes and the big numbers represent the hours. So if the long hand is on the
eight line then its eight minutes and if the shorthand is on 2 then its eight minutes to two.
The numbers are important so we know what time it is.

How to tell analogue time? First, you read the number at the end of
the longhand. Then read if it is past or if it is to. 12 to 6 on the right side is to and
12 to 6 on the left side is past. Then lastly read the number on the shorthand.
The clock I read gave me the time of eight minutes to two.

As people know that the time itself-go fast or slow.
each hand has its own role to play.
The shorthand is for an hour, the long hand is for
the minutes and the thin hand is for the seconds.
This explanation has taught you about the hands on the clock,
numerals on the clock and how to tell Analogue time. It can be difficult
or simple to tell the time but however people mostly prefer their technology
but learn how to use time can be useful in life.

This week we are working on a explanation about how to tell analogue time.It can be difficult or simple to tell the time but however people mostly prefer their phone, ipad, tv and watch. As people know that the time itself-go fast or slow. Each hand has its own role to play. The shorthand is for an hour, the long hand is for the minutes and the thin hand is for the seconds. This explanation will tell you the about the hands, numerals and how to tell analogue time. I tried to use hook to to make my conclusion and introduction more interesting. The hook I have used was retoricl.

Adding Decimals

This week fro maths we are making a DLO about something we learned. We learned how to add decimals. What you need to do first is write you equation. My equation will be 4.2 + 5.8. The aim is to make a whole number. Add something to one of you numbers to make a whole number. For this equation I will add .2 to the 5.8 and that will make 6. Then I need to take away .2 form the 4.2 because we took the .2 and gave it to 5.8. Then add 6 and 4 and your answer should be 10. For our book we needed to go on the class site and go on the maths to find out what the question were. Then we needed to answer the questions. This was easy because I understand how the questions and strategy worked.

Petrol and Milk Compared to Sprite

This week for the last block of the day we were doing some problem sloving. What we did was Mrs Anderson gave us a problem and then we needed to solve it. The problem was Is it cheaper to fill a Ranger rover with milk, sprite or petrol? Why? How do you know? What type of maths did you use to solve this?. This was hard so we went into groups my groups was Avalon and Joel. Our DLO needed to include Capacity of fuel tank,3 or 2 liquids of our choice to compare, size of liquid and price of liquid.

Digital-tech

Image result for scratch
Tech at Tamaki Collage was great. I am in Digital-tech and Mrs Anderson is our teacher for this. What we did first was finish off our Response document. Today Mrs Anderson was not here as she was gone to the hui to present pretension. Now I am working on my animation on scratch animation. My animation needs to be about the neighbor hood. I need to think about the Backdrop,Sprite and Story idea. My focus was the scripts. After we did our animation the man that was looking after us showed us a video of a program that tamaki runs. The program can help with carers like military. Today was our last session and next week we will change groups. I am really sad because learning how to do animation was fun.

Panmure Bridge Timeline

This week for Inquiry we were creating a Timeline about the Panmure Bridge. Here is my presentation Timeline. The years that are in this presentation are 1864 and 1865, 1915 and 1916. In between the year, 1864 and 1865 Panmure Bridge was made. This was made out of Wood from a tree and is the earliest surviving swing span bridge in New Zealand. The picture was taken on the Tamaki side. This was a beam bridge. In 1915 people went and reconstructed Panmure Bridge. The Bridge was made out of Wood and string. The picture is taken from the Tamaki side. This was a beam bridge. In 1916 they had the official opening for Panmure Bridge. The bridge went from Panmure and Pakuranga. The opening was on the 14 August 1916. At the time Prime Minister William Massey led the way with a traction engine.

Snag Golf

This week for Kiwi Sport we did Snag Golf. What we did first was we went into partners. My partner was Magenta. Together we tried to encourage each other in the game. What we did next was we tried to hit the ball to the target we each took turns doing this. After that Mrs. Morris gave us a challenge on how many 1's we can hit on the target in 1 minute I only hit 2 but I tried. Next, we did a Challenge who could get the lowest number when we hit the target. The winner for the game was Jericho and Affonso.

Kiwi Can

This week for Kiwi Can the topic was Problem-solving. What we did first was talked about how to solve problems in a good way. If there is a problem go and get a teacher to help or stop the problem. The first thing we did was we played a game called Catching Monkeys what we needed to do was try to hit the people in the middle. The ball had to hit peoples knees and legs. The winner for the game was Tiava. Then we played a game where we needed to call out the answer for a theme. Sadly my group did not win but we had a fun time. Our points were 15 altogether. I think we needed to listen to and respect the teacher more in kiwi can.

HIIT

This week for HIIT we did some extreme workout. The workout we did was push-ups, squats, tap step and star jumps. We needed to have teamwork. The first thing we did was put on our heart morning. Then we started to do some warm ups. The warm-ups were Take The L, Hype, Fresh, Living Large and Ride the Pony. We used the Tabata timing to time our workout. Next, we did our workouts the push-ups were hard but the tap steps were easy. A big thank you to Mrs. Anderson for the Music and the support and thank you to Tiava, Mataio, and Lyric for the demonstration.

Decimals Game

This week we are learning to add Decimals numbers. I am now practicing on how to add decimals numbers on a site called Mathopolis. The game gives you questions and options on which answer is right. This is an image and an example of what it gives you. I got the answer right. Another site that can help you is Mathsisfun. It shows you how to add decimals and the position of the numbers behind the point. It also gives you some other ways to add decimals.

Sky Tower Trip

This week for our Inquiry topic we were lucky enough to go on a free trip to New Zealand's Famous Structure the Sky Tower. Waba was our host who guided us around the sky tower. The first thing that happens was we split into our kiwi can groups then we went inside next we took a photo where there were a big phone and lights. Secondly, we went up an elevator to the observation deck. Waba then gave us a sheet of paper where we needed to find what location it is and also gave  us a sky city pencil. We needed to work with partners to do this activity next we went to the deck to see where people would go if there was an emergency. My favorite part of the Deck was it had an orange cabin because it had color pencils, workbooks, first aid kit and lollies. Sadly the lollies were not there but Waba said it would be there as well as some water. After we went to the theater to watch videos about the sky tower to learn some facts. We even got to see a model made by a man named James. I learned that the tower was built in 1997 and took 2 years and 9 months to build. I also learned that 6,000 elephant is the weight of the sky tower Mrs. Anderson asked us this question and I answer 6,000 and Waba gave me so marbles. Then we headed up an elevator but before we did women showed a picture that was taken of us when we first came to the sky tower. Then we went to near the exit. I would like to say a thank you to Mrs. Krirpatrick, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Dobson, Mrs. Linda and Mr. Wong for coming with us and helps us on the trip. I would like to give a huge thank you to Douglas Bates for donating the money for Room 5, LS1 and LS2 to visit the sky tower everyone enjoyed the trip and learned fun things about structures.

Tamaki College OverDrive

Cover of Pray for a Fire Drill
This Week I was on Tamaki College OverDrive Year 7 and Year 8's are lucky to get a chance to read online using the Tamaki College OverDrive. A book that was interesting that I read on Tamaki College OverDrive was called Big Nate and Friends,Pray for a Fire Drill. This book is about a boy named Nate and he is having problem with his dad eating to much, His fiends not knowing how to play a game, His crush goign to someone else and wanting another teacher. I like this book because it is funny and it has cool picture.

Group A's HIIT Workout

This week we are planing to make our own exercise using fortnite moves. The fortnite moves we are using are Wiggle,Best Mates,Take the L,Living Large and the Hype. Wiggle is when you wiggle your head and your body.Start of by moving your leg side to side then move your body side to side.Best Mates is when you jump and move your hands but not your elbows. Start off by jumping and then move your arm up side to side near your armpits and.Taking the L is when you kick both of your leg, jump at the same time and have you hand on you. Start off by kicking both leg and then jump and then have you finger something L on your head. The Hype is when you go up and down and move you arms and leg up and down.Start off by moving your arms up and down and then do the same with legs.In this you need you need to move you legs but move your shoulders and arms side to side. I really like these move because the really make our heart pump more.

Scale Drawings

Last week we were learning how to do scale drawings. I have picked Snoopy from the Peanuts movie. Something hard I found was the nose and something that was the best about the drawing was the legs because it really looked like the picture. I have picked Snoopy because it is a nice simple design. We first needed to find an image and then add a gird. We needed to make sure that the grid squares were 1cm. Next, we grabbed an A3 paper to add a grid but we needed to enlarge our grid so that our art when we draw the design it is enlarge. Thirdly we needed to draw our design what I did to make this neat was a focus on one box at a time. The Scale Factor was 2. Next, we needed to add color for Snoopy I only needed black and white. Lastly, we made a label and then stuck it on cardboard paper. I really like how my on looked  because my lines were straight. Next time I would choose a more harder design to improve my skills in this learning activity.

5-7-10

The Tunnel

The wind blows like a roaring tiger.
Then the trees sway  like an elephant's trunk.
I see green things like grass, broken trees and leaves.
The branches were stiff as a rock and the tunnel was black like the stormy cloud.
I was thinking where will this lead me?.
As I walked through the tunnel I heard crackling noises from the leaves.
It was like crunching cereal. The rocks were old and covered in black and green grass.
It was a dark and gloomy night when thunder struck through the tunnel.
The thunder was booming like a earthquake and the clouds were black as a hole.
I said to myself “Will I survive or Will I die.”

This week I did a 5-7-10 writing. We had 5 minutes of writing,7 minutes of talking about the writing and 10 minutes for drafting our writing. We needed to writing and describe the image that Mrs. Kiripatrcik gave us. The story is about the Tunnel and the different things that happen around it and things that move around it.

Kiwi Can

This week for Kiwi Can we were learning about Problem Solving. We were talking about some problems in Public and in School. A problem in Public is Road Violence and a school problem can be bullying. The energizer we played was called Tangel we needed to join hand across us and side us then we need to try to untangle each other but still hold hands my group won this game and was really excited. The next Energizer we played was called Rock, Paper,Siccors leveal we need to beat the other person if we lose then we are on our knees then we need to battle another people on their knees if we lose and we are on our knees then we need to sit dnow and we are otu if we win and we are on our knees then we stand up. The next game we played was called Rope we needed to figure out how to get over the rope without jumping or going under what my group did was we all stand on magentas back and then hoped over the rope. The last thign we did was a GKQ Miss Morris was the winner for our GKQ today. The point of these games was too collaborate, encourage and have communication.

We first had a prayer (karakia) lead by the Kaumatua who has blessed our some of our school's building before. Secondly got to see the Kapa Haka group. The girls displayed a dance with a poi and the boys did a dance with sticks. Next, we got Mr. Johnston to speak and introduce Sir Peter Thompson to the stage to talk about the New Whare Hauora Medi Cube. After Sir Peter Thompson had talked to us about the medi cube and thanked people who helped him we got a very special person who owned a company who sponsored Panmure Bridge School to create the New Whare Hauora Medi cube and is the from Starship. We were lucky to get a lot of people from Starship and the ADHB to come and see the new Whare Hauora Medi cube. Later on, we went near the medi cube to see Sarah Williams cut the ribbon, we all clapped it got cut and were excited that the Whare Hauora Medi Cube was now open. This Medi Cube was for medication purposes so that all students that are sick can visit the Medi Cube and get checked by our expert Nures. I really like the idea of this, and the art that is on the Medi Cube. A big thank you to Starship Children's Health, Starship Foundation, Auckland District Health Board, Cube and Barfoot and Thompson for sponsoring this Medi Cube.

Wheel Words

This week for a reading activity Rotorua and Motuihe were on a site called wheel words. In this Learning Game, we needed to find words that use the letter in the center wheel. I used 3 hints to help me and I found 20 words. I also found 4 obscure words. When I do this again I think I could work on getting 6 letter words. We needed to do this in ten minutes.

Formal and Informal

Postcard-

Letter-Dear Mrs Kirkpatrick,
Good Morning Mrs. Kirkpatrick how was your holiday? Mine was great and special because I went to meet my cousin that I haven’t met since I was 5. My Cousin's name is Lisa and she was traveling from Hong Chong China towards Auckland to go on a trip to Wellington. We picked her up at the Auckland Airport and then we settled down at home.

This was exciting to spend time with her. She first showed me some things from Hong Kong that she came with,it was a Sandalwood Fan, A 2018 dog tote bag to put her Computer and iPad and Fortune cookies. I got to try one and it was great. I really like how you can hunt for your Fortune. When I told Lisa about the bubble tea she said that it was most popular in China and that they sell Bubble Tea Kits.

The Secondly thing we did was an ultimate musically. Musical.ly is an app for video creation and lets your go live to broadcast. The first prototype was released in April 2014, and the official version was launched in August of that year. Next, we had dinner for dinner we had rice and dumplings this was Lisa favorite because it was apart of her culture. The next day we had to get her packed up so she can leave for Wellington I took a picture before she transmitted I was down that she had to go but my dad said that she would come back. What was your favorite part of spending time with your special people?

Sincerely,Angela Afamasaga

Animal Poem

White and Black
Black and White
Trying to find my twin tonight!
Is that my twin on the road
It looks like people are on his toes.
People do not  like my Stripy Stripes
Just because I am Black and white
This doesn't mean I am not full of might
Oh, I need my twin tonight.

This week for writing we were writing a poem about an being an animal.
I picked a zebra. I expressed about his lost twin and added a complaint about his life.
Somethings Mrs. Kiripatrick thought we should have was Rhyming couplet,
Cadence, and Anthropomorphism. My poem frequently shows Rhyming couplets.

The Best Day of My Life

This week we were working on a Key Into Evaluation activity what we needed to do was write our best day ever. The Best Day of My Life was going to a resort in Samoa called saletoga. My Papa booked us 2 houses to stay in each house cost 400 a night luckily we were staying for one night so the money we needed to pay was 800. The first thing we need to do was unpack then we changed into our swimming clothes and went swimming in the pools. Ather a lot of swims it was getting dark and we needed to get change after we got changed we went to the restaurant to order some food I got my cousin to order me some food and bring it to me because I needed to stay at the house to look after my mom that got sick from the salt water. Then we went back to our houses 1 house was for the girls and the other was for the boys. I stayed up just in case my mom needed water or something to drink. The next day we left I really hope I get to come here again.

Secrets and Sounds Chain

This week my reading group was working on making a chain by linking ideas from a story. First, we started with a response. Then we tried to get as many comments that link to the response. We used the Chain sheet to record our comments. In order to link the comment we needed to use something form the other comments or something from the questions. This was easy for me because I had a  lot of information about the story to make a comment.

Evaluation requires the skills or reorganization and inference.
Answers must come from the
information in the story. Look for keywords. Consider the writer’s intent.

Gym

My only brother was also my twin.
You would think that because we were identical we would act
the same way and like the same things.
He was born forty minutes before me and would often
remind me of the fact. Because I was keen on sport,
he would also rub me up the wrong way by raving on about
how the sport was boring and a big waste of time.

“Who, little brother,” he would jeer, “needs to suffer pain unnecessarily?”

When we turned fifteen my parents surprised
me with a year’s subscription to the In-Shape Gym.
Now I was able to join Brant and Ethan each Monday and
Wednesday evening to seriously work out. When they turned
up at home to pick me up Josh would be sprawled out on the couch
mindlessly watching cartoons or playing his new PlayStation.
He would poke fun at us and say that the best way to deal with an
urge to exercise was ’to stay calm and wait until it went away.’

“Just playing sport is bad enough,” he scoffed,
“but working out is over the top.  And Tim,” he says,
leaning forward and screwing up his nose, “the only reason
you would want to go there would be to attract the girls!”

So it was a surprise when having decided to go to
the gym late one Thursday afternoon, we saw Josh come
out the side door dressed in a tracksuit carrying a sports bag
in his hand.  What’s more, he crossed the road and walked straight
up to a smiling Tammy Aster - the most gorgeous girl at our school.

a.  Why did his brother refer to him as ‘little brother’?
He called him little brother because he was born 40 minutes later
b.  Do you think the writer was happy with his birthday present?
Why do you say that? Yes Because he wanted to work out serious with his friends

c.  What present do you think Tim’s brother got for his fifteenth birthday?
For his birthday he got a new PlayStation

d.  Why do you think Josh was at the gym?

Reaction question:

Would you like to be Josh’s brother?  Why do you say that?
yes because he is nice and kind and he actually listens
